What are Email Lists?

What are Email Lists?

Email Lists
I talk a lot on this blog about email lists, usually with the assumption that the definition is a foregone conclusion. Typically with internet marketing, this is the case. However, there is some nuance to the term. In general, an email list is a list of addresses to which the same content is sent. However, when referring to internet marketing, this definition is perhaps too broad.

Opt-In Email Lists
In marketing, there are opt-in email lists. Typically, these will include a link or some other method for assuring that the customer wants to continue receiving the offers. In many cases, list emails will include an unsubscribe button for letting the administrator know that the user is “opting out.” of a particular email list

Targeted Email Lists
There are also non-opt in lists, usually purchased in bulk for mass mailings (or email blast). Often times, these lists are a better tool for the job than opt-in lists. Curating an opt-in list is a much greater time-commitment and is usually more-suited toward newsletters and occasion offers. Purchasing an email list (or email database) in bulk is a great way to get a precompiled list of thousands of addresses ready to be contacted. In many cases, these databases are sold or leased based on region or industry, lending them much better for targeted email marketing.

What to Consider When Renting a Consumer Email List

What to Consider When Renting a Consumer Email List

Renting lists have had a bad reputation. However, trustworthy list companies who can provide you with high-quality, responsive, clean, and opted-in email lists do exist. A high-quality consumer email list can maximize email deliverability rates and keep you clear of the wrong audience.  A good list can guide you to profitable prospects and boost your business branding efforts. Your company probably has a loyal following of customers already, but if you are looking to expand your audience, renting a consumer email list is a fantastic idea.

A good list company should be able to provide you with list recommendations according to your target audience and goals. These lists are sorted by demographics, household information, purchasing and lifestyle consumer information. However, advanced list companies are able to dive in even further and pull out detailed information such as behavior and specific buying habits such as brand preference. Targeting precision is super important in terms of executing a successful email campaign. When working with a list company, make sure to be as specific as possible about the list you are looking for. They should be able to create a targeted consumer email list based on the audience you want to target, whether it is boys between the ages of 13 and 20 who like pizza, or women between the ages of 25 and 40 who go shopping every weekend. A good list company should also be able to help you brainstorm and identify new opportunities and target markets.

To avoid illegitimate list providers, here are a couple of questions you should ask and look into before working with them: Are the emails CAN-SPAM compliant? How up-to-date are the lists? What are the sources of the emails? Does the list provider have good standing with the BBB?

You will want to make sure that the consumer list you are going to use is cleaned regularly, opted-in, and CAN-SPAMcompliant. It can be tempting to use a cheap list, but don’t fall into this trap! Cheap email list companies will only cause your company harm, and might give you a bad reputation as a spammer. Remember, you get what you pay for, and very cheap lists rarely perform well, if at all. It is important to do your research when looking for a list company. Make sure they have good reviews and testimonials. A great list will cost a little bit more, but it will be worth your time and money.

When renting a consumer email list, it is important to note that they are usually only licensed for a one-time use. List providers “seed” rental lists to make sure that the renter does not use the list more than once. In reality, this practice is to everyone’s benefit; email lists become out-of-date very quickly, so using an old list more than once would not be very effective anyway. Good list companies make sure that their lists are cleaned and verified daily to make sure their customers receive accurate consumer information. As long as you get your consumer email list from a reputable list company, they can provide great opportunities for your business.

B2B Business Data: What You Need To Know!

When it comes to business data, we like to think that we know what we are talking about – but what we know for sure is that it can often be confusing for others to understand the relevance and importance of b2b business data. In our latest blog, we take a look into b2b business data, the pitfalls and how it can really work for your business!

B2b Business Data and you

When it comes to the business data you require, how can you be sure you are accessing the correct information? This should be simple really, especially when it comes to buying b2b business data – there’s a few key things you should look out for: it should be up to date (but not 100%), the key decision makers are the ones that you should be in contact with, it should be relevant to what you will be utilising it for, and you should never be buying too much!

To quickly divulge a little of what is detailed further in our resource paper we will show you a few of the key facts here:

B2b Business Data Is Never 100% Up To Date

You should never trust a business data supplier who says “Our records are 100% up to date and correct”, as this is simply not true, in any case! And we’re the first ones to admit that. We’re happy to let our clients know that it’s practically impossible to guarantee that 100% of our b2b business data will be up to date, no matter how hard we try!

Research shows that key decision makers are changed within businesses every year (12% of MD’s, 23% of Sales Directors and 39% of Marketing Directors). Therefore even updating our database every 9 months as we do, chances are there will still some data that will fall through and be incorrect at certain points of the year, and this is simply due to circumstances that are beyond our control.

Look At What You Need

B2b business data is important as it can help maintain your businesses ROI and ultimately help you achieve your business goals. Before you purchase the data, research what you need it for, this will help ensure you aren’t buying more than you need leading to time and money being wasted in contacting businesses that either is not relevant or aren’t needed.

What are you using the data for? It might be for new sales leads or to secure new business, your business data should be utilised to assist you with achieving your business goals.
